Car history: |
1955 Corvette, one of the rarest Corvettes ever produced. If Noland Adams and the Straight Axle club is right, this is the first of the seven 6 cylinder cars made in 1955. That would also make this the first base engine Corvette ever made. The 6 cylinder cars were very different than the V-8 cars. Here is a list of some of the differences, the hood has a different bracing,The frame did not have the indent for the fuel pump. The holes for the exhaust were enlarged with a torch(the slag is still hanging there) to make room for the 6 cylinder exhaust system. The electrical system is 6 volt, V-8 cars were 12 volt.Windshield washer system is vacuum operated, not electrical. The vin number does not have the v for the V-8,this one starts with an E. The splash shields and inner fenders are unique to the base motor cars. It does not have the gold V on the trim. The dash has an extra hole for the choke cable. Even the gas pedal is unique to 6 cylinder cars. The car has had a 2000+ hour restoration, and it shows. I have well in excess of $100,000 in receipts. I have history for over 40 years. Now for the number guys...The blocks casting no.is 3835911 with the proper YG code. The head casting no.is 3836241. The carbs no. are 2066SA. Starter no.is 1107627. The generator no. is 1102793. Distributor no. is 1112314. The list goes on.... The restoration used N.C.R.S. guidelines with the exception being the fit and finish. When you get it judged you will lose points for the paint, they will say its too good ( I guess we will have to disagree on that). I wanted the best and thats what I got. It has a base coat ,clear coat finish in the original Gypsy red (I have pictures before it was restored). It is a real red car,not a recolored car. The body work will also cost you a few points, it is far better than what the factory ever put out. This is what you get with 100s of hours blocking the body. The frame had no rust at all, still had most of the original factory paint on it. The interior and top is from Al Knoch. Everything mechanical has been redone. The chrome is great. The 5 new wide whites are Firestone. The hubcaps are N.O.S. This car will make an outstanding addition to any collection. The golden rule to collecting anything is to buy the rarest and the best! This car is both...... The buy it now price is $159,000. |
